This Week’s Completely Random But Incredibly Useful Tips

Useful Tips Week 9.16

Do you love little tips to make life easier? I do too. This week I have rounded up some great little tips from around the web. From making your food taste better to making your perfume last longer. You are sure to find something useful.

Useful Tips Week 9.16

1. Soothe Aching Feet. Apply a thick coat of chest rub such as Vicks VapoRub  and cover with a pair of socks before going to bed at night. When you wake up, your feet will be moisturized and rejuvenated.

2. Use a bar of soap as a stain remover. Simply pretreat grass and dirt stains with a few gentle swipes of a dry bar (any kind will do).

3. Remove Crayon marks on the kitchen table with toothpaste and mayonnaise.

  • For painted surfaces, use the toothpaste. Put a dab on non-gel toothpaste on an old toothbrush or dry rag and rub.
  • For stained or untreated wood, use mayonnaise. Rub real mayonnaise on the marks with a rag, let it sit a minute or two, and then wipe it off with a damp cloth.

4. Better Microwave Pizza. Put a small amount of water in a glass when you microwave your pizza to keep the crust from getting chewy.

5. Remove bumper stickers with vinegar.

  • Saturate the top and sides of the sticker with undiluted distilled vinegar and wait 10-15 minutes for the vinegar to soak through.
  • Then use an expired credit card or something similar to scrape it off.
  • Use more full-strength vinegar to get rid of any remaining gluey residue.

6. Budget Easier. Instead of crossing items off your grocery list while at the store, write the price next to it. This makes for an easy way to tack expenses and tweak your budget.

7. Make fresh flowers last longer. Your cut flowers will stay fresh longer if you add a copper penny and a cube of sugar to the vase water.

8. Repel ants with flour: Sprinkle a line of flour along the backs of pantry shelves and wherever you see ants entering the house. Ants are repelled by flower and they won’t cross over the line.

9. Keep brown sugar soft. Next time you open a bag of brown sugar, add a few marshmallows to the bag before closing it. The marshmallows will add enough moisture to keep the sugar soft for weeks.

10. Lengthen the life of perfume/cologne. Dab a bit of petroleum jelly on your pulse points. Then spray on the perfume. The perfume droplets will cling to the petroleum jelly – rather than sinking into your pores – which can reduce or eliminate the need to reapply fragrance later in the day.
